The Secure Certificates request process consists of three main steps:
Purchasing certificate
Submitting certificate request
Installing issued certificate
Follow the instructions below to purchase and request a Secure Certificate for your Web site.
- Go to the "Secure Certificates" product page and purchase a one-, two- or three-year Secure Certificate.
- When you have completed your purchase, log in to your account and go to the "Secure Certificates" area.

- Click "Set up New Certificate."
- Indicate whether the domain you are requesting the certificate for is hosted with your certificate reseller or with a third-party hosting provider.
Note that if your domain is hosted with your certificate reseller, then the reseller will generate and submit your Certificate Signing Request (CSR) to the certificate authority and install the signed certificate on your site once issued. If you are hosting elsewhere you must perform those tasks yourself.
If hosting with your certificate reseller
If hosting with a third-party provider
IF HOSTING WITH YOUR CERTIFICATE RESELLER:
- Select the applicable hosting account from the drop-down list.
- Select a Hosting SSL Support Pack from the displayed list.
Note: If you haven't already purchased a Support Pack you must do so before proceeding with your certificate request. A Support Pack is required in order to enable SSL-encrypted transactions on your hosting account.
- Click "Use Hosting SSL Support Pack and Set up Secure Certificate." This will take you to the certificate-management Web site.

- If you already have a certificate-management account, log in to it. If not, you must create one.
- The certificate-management page lists your available certificate credits. Click on the applicable certificate credit.

- On the certificate-request page, select "Corporate" or "Small Busisness/Sole Proprietor" as your business type; then enter requestor information.

- Submit and confirm the certificate-request information.

- The Certificate Authority – Starfield Technologies – confirms that your request has been submitted. If applicable, you will be prompted to fax in required individual or corporate documentation. Authentication process commences.

- Starfield finalizes its authentication process by placing a phone call to you. When the phone call is completed, the certificate will be issued and sent to your hosting provider.
- Your hosting provider will install the issued certificate on your Web site.
While under way you can monitor the progress of your certificate request via the certificate-management area. As well, Starfield Technologies will inform you about the status of your request via e-mail.
If all necessary data is properly submitted, the CA is usually able to complete the authentication process and issue a signed certificate within 2-5 hours of the request.
IF HOSTING WITH THIRD-PARTY PROVIDER:
- Click "Set up a New Secure Certificate." This will take you to the certificate-management Web site.

- If you already have a certificate-management account, log in to it. If not, you must create one.
- The certificate-management page lists your available certificate credits. Click on the applicable certificate credit.

- On the certificate-request page, select "Corporate" or "Small Busisness/Sole Proprietor" as your business type; then enter requestor information.
- Use your Web server software to generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR). CSR-instructions are available on the certificate-management Web site.
- Copy and paste the generated CSR into the CSR field on the certificate-request page; then select your Web server software from the drop-down list.

- Submit and confirm the certificate-request information.

- The Certificate Authority – Starfield Technologies – confirms that your request has been submitted. If applicable, you will be prompted to fax in required individual or corporate documentation. Authentication process commences.

- Starfield finalizes its authentication process by placing a phone call to you. When the phone call is completed, the certificate will be issued and sent to you via e-mail.

- Download and install the issued certificate and Starfield’s intermediate certificate on your Web server. Installation instructions are available on the certificate-management site.
